Burton Salmon, North Yorkshire

Opened by the York and North Midland Railway in 1839, the station here closed 120 years later in 1959, and was completely demolished. I had read about this location, and had seen photos, and with the attraction of Milford Junction at Monk Fryston just a few miles further north, made efforts to visit this location as soon as I was able to. And what a great place it was to spend time watching trains! The entrance to the old station was ungated as I recall, so I simply drove my car inside the entrance, and set myself up on the old loading dock, where great views of tains heading both north and south could be had, with the sun on the right side. Perfect! I visited a few times in 1997 but have not been back since (at the time of writing in 2018). I seem to recall there being a grounded coach body in a field close to the station site. I wonder if it is still there?
