Liverpool Lime Street

Opened in 1836 Liverpool Lime Street, built by the Liverpool & Manchester Railway, has remained in continuous use ever since. As well as mainline trains to and from London, the station hosts numerous local trains, and services across the Pennines. I've not been here many times but you can't fail to be impressed by the climb out of the terminus to Edge Hill through the deep cutting, with its high retaining walls. In the very early days this was a roped-worked section of railway.
