Isle of Man Steam Railway

The steam railway is a very attractive operation, with its unique and appealing fleet of Beyer Peacock 2-4-0 tank engines. Once you leave the urban detritus of Douglas behind you are soon out in to some beautiful countryside, with coastal views and rolling fields, and it is true when they say that the Isle of Man seems to echo what the British countryside must have been like 50 years or so ago, with an undeveloped feel about it. Despite being a small island, the terrain is very undulating, with distant views of mountains and hills. An interesting fact is that the railway is a nationalised body, owned and operated by the Isle of Man Government.
