Colton Junction, North Yorkshire
Opened in 1983, the new route of the East Coast Main Line starts here and runs west of the older route of 1871. This had to be closed after serious subsidence occurred due to the development of the new Selby coalfield at the time, and thus impeded on plans to run faster trains on the route. So this new part of the East Coast Main Line is the only section not to have witnessed A4s and Deltics! This spacious and open location is great for photography, with plenty of trains using both the ECML, and the busy line south from here to Milford Junction.
