Burnham (Slough), Berkshire

For decades the home of my grandparents, I became very familiar with Burnham station, my brother and I spending many hours, and days, trainspotting on this 4-track, busy, main line during school holidays. I have many, many happy memories of those innocent days, when young children such as us could enjoy activities like this without inference or suspicion.

Burnham is a typical suburban commuter station, an island platform accessed via a subway under the up slow line. The down slow and two up and down fasts are on the other side. I only remember the station in the pre-electrification days, as of course this is now the wired GWR mainline, and route of Crossrail. I am sure when I next visit it will all look very different.
