Beningbrough, near York, Yorkshire

Beningbrough station opened in 1841 and closed in 1965. Twenty years later a retired railwayman opened "The Sidings" hotel and restaurant close to the site of the station. Comprising a number of ex-BR Mark I coaches grouped around the main building the establishment doubles-up as an amazing museum of railwayana and offers clear views of the four-track East Coast Main Line north of York, albeit with the sun on the "wrong side" for much of the day if it is sunny. But nevertheless it is definitely worth staying there for the experience of the sound and sensation of heavy freight rocking your bed at all hours through the night!
