8th Sept 2004

At 13.05 the 1C82 10.35 London Paddington to Penzance "Cornish Riviera Express" takes the down through line non-stop. The first production HST power car no. 43002 "Techniquest" leads the train. 43025 was on the rear.
43002 has carried a variety of names in its time, originally having the indignity of having to carry the name "Top of the Pops" for a period during the 1980s! As I write this (2019) the power car, now wearing its original InterCity 125 blue and yellow colours and carrying the name "Sir Kenneth Grange", is about to enter preservation as part of the national collection at the NRM in York.
Oh, by the way, in the up platform is another HST, lead by 43023 "County of Cornwall" (out of sight at the front) and 43152 at the end (as seen here) working on the 12.40 Plymouth to London Pddington train. 43152 wears the "fag packet" colours of First Great Western.
