The 500 Class diesel electric locomotives were built by South Australian Railways at their Islington workshops in the mid-sixties. They were powered by an English Electric engine and deliver 500hp. A bit of a super-shunter I guess. Being so far from home it was somewhat comforting, if not rather bizarre, to here the distinctive sound of an EE power plant! No. 507 looks smart in its red livery tastefully lined in yellow. It stands at Goolwa with the afternoon "Cockle Train" to Victor Harbour.
