Rochelle, IL
This is a popular spot to stop and shoot trains. The city of Rochelle has provided a viewing area under cover, with railroad radio broadcast through speakers so that you can hear the chatter. A small gift shop and cold drinks machine, and meeting area, as well as toilets, make this an ideal place to visit. The trains are frequent, and dramatic as they thunder over the diamonds. There appear to be more UP than BNSF trains, but whatever trains come through it's great to see them up so close, and without the hindrance of fences to get in the way. You just would not get anything like this in the UK! I have visited a number of times over the years, but never tire of the location.
