16th Sept 1989

16th Sept 1989 - Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
I'm travelling on Pathfinder Tour's "Fenland Rambler" rail tour, starting out from Bristol Parkway and travelling to Kings Lynn via Birmingham New Street, Melton Mowbray, Edwalton (the test track), Ely, Kings Lynn, Middleton Towers, Cambridge, Fen Drayton, and back to Bristol. Quite a full day! Haulage that day included Class 47/3, $7/9, 31 (three different ones), and these two, Class 20s nos. 20128 + 20168. The "twenties" were attcahed here for the journey up the Edwalton line with 47973 "Midland Counties 150 1839-1989". The driver is eyeing me up suspiciously!

Class 20 no. 20168 is still with us at the time of writing in 2022, owned by Harry Needle Railroad Company and operating as No. 2 at Hope Cement Works. However, no. 20128 went on to join Direct Rail Services fleet as their no. 20307, and after many years service was eventually scrapped in 2013.
