Class 47/4 no. 47654 "Finsbury Park" is at the platform ready to leave with the 06.57 Newcastle to Poole. The driver, complete with flat cap, wanders down the platform. Is he going to shut that door on the Mark II coach to expediate his departure I wonder?

To illustrate the evolving situation with Class 47s over their life this loco was built in 1964 and numbered D1640, renumbered under the TOPS scheme as 47056 in 1974, converted to become ETH equipped and renumbered 47654 in 1986, then given extended-range fuel tanks in 1989, receiving the number 47809, and finally upgraded for Rail Express Systems and becoming their 47783 and named "Saint Peter"! A lot of changes. Like its namesake Finsbury Park it has long left this world, being scrapped in 2007.
