(2) A defective open gondola in this eastbound UP manifest train had to be set off in the siding at Walong, so I had the unusual sight of an uphill train actually stopping on the loop in order to remove the car. At 14.51 the train's power (Dash9-44CW no. 9829, Dash8-40C no. 9177 and SD40-2 no. 3908) backs the car into the siding, leaving the rest securely held on the gradient. They'll soon hitch up to the train again and get on their way.
