I'm standing alongside Abercynon signal box but the train is heading for Aberdare, so will be calling at Abercynon North. 150272 is operating the 09.10 Rhymney to Aberdare service, passing beneath a lovely GWR gantry signal. Signalling changes, as a result of the closure of North station in 2008 and the rebuilding of South station, saw the end of the semaphores.
The signal box was demolished in 2013. But at the time of my visit in 1990 the 'box was being painted! Closure was still 18 years away, after all.
