5th Oct 1991 - Mark's Tey to Sudbury branch, Essex
Shooting through Mark's Tey at speed, this Class 309 EMU is working the 11.02 Ipswich/10.58 Clacton to London Liverpool Street express. The two portions would have combined at Colchester. These were quite stylish units and two sets have been preserved. They were built 1962-63 at BR's York Works and were the UK's first electric multiple units capable of running at 100mph. They became known as the Clacton Express EMUs.
