At 12.09 a horn heralded the approach of a south-bound local on the CN, and to my delight and surprise this was lead (long hood forward) by a former Grand Trunk GP38-2 no. 5832, plus CN SD40-2 no. 5287. The GT unit was pretty beaten up but nevertheless pleasing to see. As is often the case with American railroads, the history of the GT is fairly complex and intertwined with the CN. Grand Trunk has been part of the Canadian National operation for decades, but had always enjoyed its own identity, but in recent times it has been fully absorbed into the parent company.
