29th Sept 2000

Standing in the Amtrak station at 13.00, waiting for the road ahead, this south-bound manifest train has two beat-up former SP tunnel motors, SD40T-2s nos. 8235 and 8270, on the point. They look to me to be in their original paint scheme, that is, prior to the Rio Grande-inspired version of the Southern Pacific lettering. Certainly the condition of the engines cosmetically is pretty awful, but nice if you're an SP fan!
