Greenfoot (Glenboig), North Lanarkshire
This semi-rural location is a little oasis of green close to the eastern reaches of suburban Glasgow. Just north of Coatbridge, on the line that passes by the village of Glenboig, the line gently curves around the site of Gain Quarry, on the Gain Road. Glenboig was best known for the production of fireclay and bricks, and some coal mining was also active nearby. Evidence of this industrial past is less obvious now but the route between Coatbridge and Greenhill can still see a handful of freights each day. Since my first visit in 2007 the line has been electrified.
