Goodland, IN: Toledo, Peoria & Western RR
En route from Indianapolis to Milwaukee I chanced upon this short line railroad, now part of the Genessee & Wyoming short line (owners of the Freightliner group no less). The area is very much agricultural, with all kinds of crops being cultivated. To me there is something very appealing about a short train trotting along a backwater railroad, seemingly insignificant but in fact performing a very important task, either serving local industry, or indeed interchanging with a larger network, allowing businesses to send out their finished goods all over. The T,P & W in fact interchanges with many railroads along its route, including CSX, UP and CN. The train I stumbled across was heading east, but I have no idea where it was going. But I was glad I spent half an hour or so taking notice.
