Foxfield, Cumbria

Once the junction for the branch to Coniston when this line closed to passengers in 1958, and completely in 1962, the majority of the station buildings were demolished, leaving just the wooden signal box and waiting shelter. The signal box opened in 1879 and has a 52 lever frame, although only 51 levers were ever installed, and today just 10 remain in use. The station building remains in private use and an old water tower still stands, disused.

It's a delightful, quiet location and a nice place to explore. The village is also well known in the area for the micro brewery at the Prince of Wales pub.
