Drogheda, & Navan branch, Co, Neath
Navan is on a lengthy freight only branch that goes all the way to Kingscourt. Leaving the town of Drogheda, on the Dublin to Belfast main line, the branch goes roughly westwards to Navan, serving the movementof lead and zinc out of Tara Mines. After this the route turns north and eventually terminates at Kingscourt, where there is a large Gypsum mine. However, traffic to this location ended in 2001 and was transferred to road after industrial action on the railways. So freight only goes as far as Navan, the rest of the line being mothballed. Platin cement works is located between Drogheda and Navan and was supplied with gypsum by rail until 2001, after which it came by road. Passenger services are planned all the way to Navan, but that still seems to be a long way off.
