Sandhills Sub, NE: BNSF

From the division point of Ravenna the line runs westwards to Alliance, NE, passing through the picturesque Sandhills region and on into western Nebraska. The Sandhills region features very gentle hills rising and falling over the landscape, covered with lush grassland. Sometimes you feel you are travelling through the world's largest golf course, but it's all natural! This is a modern mainline, with heavy coal traffic, and not much else. Highway 2 parallels the route for most of the way, making train watching and chasing all the more easy. The route is dotted every few miles by small towns and settlements, no doubt there because of the railroad.
