Amberley, West Sussex

Opened by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway in 1863, Amberley was noted as still being controlled by mechanical signalling until 2014. The signal box was unusual in that it was part of the main station building, and in fact, latterly, the signalman sold tickets through a hatch in the wall! The village of Amberley is also well known as the home of the Amberley Working Museum, a heritage attraction situated at a former chalk pits and featuring narrow gauge railways.
