6th Sept 1989

6th Sept 1989 - Athenry, Co. Galway
A station exuding lots of traditional railway atmosphere. 071 Class no. 080 is stopping at the platform with the 07.55 Dublin Heuston to Galway service. To the left is the old goods shed, and a stack of old track panels, which suggests some recent engineering work. The line on the left certainly looks like it has been ballasted recently. The lower quadrant signals on each line confirm bi-directional running too. A delightful scene typifying the day-to-day scene on Irish railways at the time of my visit.
