The Connecticut Southern short line railroad has its northern outpost in Springfield, and is a 90 mile line operating in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Owned by short line operator Genesee & Wyoming, the line is also adjacent to the New England Central Railroad, another G&W line. At 10.07 a CSO SD40-2 no. 3398, and NECR GR38-2 no. 2048, are parked up idling, alongside Sears Way waiting for maintenance and their next duty.
