15th Oct 1983 - Newcastle, Tyne & Wear
The Honiton Round Table's railtour "Tyne-Tees Express" was a great day out for this young enthusiast, taking me to the far reaches of the foreign lands of Tyneside and the chance for haulage behind celebrity Class 40 no. 40122, better known as D200.

The day started out behind 50009 "Conqueror" for a marathon journey all the way to York - my longest-ever haulage behind a Class 50 I wonder? At York there was D200 in all her glory. The Class 40 took us on a circular route from York to Darlington, Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Hartlepool, Stockton, Northallerton and back down the ECML to York.

The day was remembered for being a dull old Autumn day, so photography would never be that great. But maybe the monochrome image here portrays the atmosphere well. We had a short leg-stretch at Newcastle, and as you can see, we all headed up to the front of the train!
