(1) Although 3 out of 4 of these units were carrying South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad markings this picture was taken on the branch of the Watco system known as the Stillwater Central, a line reaching across Oklahoma between Sapulpa and Duke in the south west of the state. The line passes through Oklahoma City. Running rights allow the railroad to run over BNSF tracks into Tulsa and the connection with the South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad system (SKOL) proper. This system is centred on Cherryvale in South Kansas.
On the outskirts of Sapulpa this train is waiting to access the BNSF line in order to continue to Tulsa. The crew were patiently waiting on the right side of an open grade crossing and when asked were perfectly happy to invite us into the cab for a chat! The train started out from Oklahoma City and was terminating at Tulsa, carrying 8 loads of gypsum and 22 empty cement cars. The train is seen at 11.30 with the following units on the head end:
#7012 - GP-7
#2211 - GP-7
#4112 - GP-30
#2186 - GP-7, in Stillwater Central colours
